We specialise in medium-to-large plaster repairs. Small door-handle holes and individual hairline cracks under about 30cm are outside our service scope. A local handyman may be more suitable for these minor jobs.

How We Repair Damaged Plasterboard

We assess damaged ceilings and walls, repair or replace the affected plasterboard as needed, then set and sand the repaired areas ready for painting. For water damage, we cut out and replace the damaged board after the leak or moisture source has been resolved.

Assess the damage

Inspect the damaged area and decide what needs repairing or replacing. For water damage, confirm the leak or moisture source has been resolved.

Step 2

Prepare the repair area

Remove loose or damaged material. Where replacement is needed, cut out damaged plasterboard back to sound material and suitable fixing points.

Step 3

Check the exposed supports

Where plasterboard has been removed, inspect the exposed battens and framing. Refer issues requiring another trade before proceeding.

Step 4

Repair or re-sheet

Repair the affected area or install replacement plasterboard as required, using suitable fixings and back-blocking where needed.

Step 5

Set the joints

Tape and apply the required coats of setting compound to joints and repaired areas, allowing appropriate drying time.

Step 6

Sand ready for painting

Sand the repaired area to the specified finish, ready for painting.

Is a water-damaged ceiling dangerous? Can it collapse?

It can. Saturated plasterboard can lose integrity and fail without warning, especially under the weight of trapped water or wet insulation. If your ceiling is visibly sagging or bulging, keep people out of the room and get it inspected promptly. A stained but flat ceiling is less urgent — but the board behind the stain may still be compromised.

How much do plaster repairs cost in Brisbane?

Indicative prices, including GST, are $300–$1,500 for standard water-damage repairs, $1,500–$3,500 for a full single-room ceiling or wall replacement, $3,500–$8,000 for multi-room restoration, and $8,000–$20,000+ for full-home re-lining and larger renovations. The final price depends on the repair area, access, cornice work and finish required. We confirm the scope and price in a written quote. Our small-job exclusions apply.

Is my repair covered by the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme?

Eligible residential work valued over $3,300, including labour, materials and GST, requires cover under the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme. Where applicable, we include the premium in your contract and arrange cover before work starts. Eligibility depends on the work and property type, and claim conditions and time limits apply. How long does the repair take?

Timing depends on the repair size, access and drying time between coats. We confirm the expected visits and duration.

We specialise in medium-to-large plaster repairs. We do not undertake small door-handle holes or individual hairline cracks under about 30cm. A local handyman may be more suitable for these minor jobs.
